Brewster F2A Buffalo - USS Saratoga 1939 - 1/72 Scale Diecast Metal Model by Oxford

$ 26.99

1:72 Scale Metal Diecast - Brewster F2A Buffalo - USS Saratoga 1939 Length: 4.5" Wingspan: 5.75"

This Buffalo model is a single seat plane. The cockpit is glue shut. There is no pilot figurine included. The landing gear is modeled in the retracted position and is fixed. A display stand with information about the particular model is included.

This is really a "no-play" model or a "display-only" model. It is mostly metal and very heavy. It also has a number of antennas which look great but are very fragile. If you have small kids that like to play with your models, save yourself some frustration (and money) and wait till later to get a model like this one. The box is labeled as not suitable for children under 14.

The maker of this model, Oxford, did a good job with this model, specifically the color scheme and the markings are very crisp and clear. The panel lines and hatches are very nicely done (engraved).

The box measures 7.5 inches by 7.5 inches by 3.25 inches.

The Brewster F2A Buffalo is an American fighter aircraft which saw service early in World War II. Designed and built by the Brewster Aeronautical Corporation, it was one of the first U.S. monoplanes with an arrestor hook and other modifications for aircraft carriers. The Buffalo won a competition against the Grumman F4F Wildcat in 1939 to become the U.S. Navy's first monoplane fighter aircraft. Although superior to the Grumman F3F biplane it replaced and the early F4Fs, the Buffalo was largely obsolete when the United States entered the war, being unstable and overweight, especially when compared to the Japanese Mitsubishi A6M Zero.
