1:72 Scale Metal Die-Cast - Heinkel He-162 Volksjäger "People's Fighter" – Length: 5" Wingspan: 3.75”
This He-162 model is a single seat plane. The cockpit is glue shut. It has no pilot figure included. The landing gear is optional and can be displayed extended or retracted (with the wheel covers on). A display stand is included
This is really a "no-play" model or a "display-only" model. It is mostly metal and very heavy. It also has a number of antennas which look great but are very fragile. If you have small kids that like to play with your models, save yourself some frustration (and money) and wait till later to get a model like this one. The box is labeled as not suitable for children under 14.
The maker of this model, War Master, did a good job with this model, specifically the color scheme and the markings are very crisp and clear. The panel lines and hatches are very nicely done (engraved). If you look carefully at the photos you will notice that the paint job has some weathering details, there are darker lines simulating wear/oil leakage along some panel lines to some very nice effect.
The box measures at 7 inches by 7 inches by 2 inches.
The Heinkel He 162 Volksjäger (German, "People's Fighter"), the name of a project of theEmergency Fighter Program design competition, was a German single-engine, jet-poweredfighter aircraft fielded by the Luftwaffe in World War II. Designed and built quickly, and made primarily of wood as metals were in very short supply and prioritised for other aircraft, the He 162 was nevertheless the fastest of the first generation of Axis and Allied jets. Volksjäger was the Reich Air Ministry's official name for the government design program competition won by the He 162 design. Other names given to the plane include Salamander, which was the codename of its construction program, and Spatz ("Sparrow"), which was the name given to the plane by Heinkel.
